Running FTS Serial Products under Win2K & XP The information in this article applies to:
You must have a license for FTS for Windows NT to run under Windows 2000. All Serialtest Async and SerialBERT Async licenses include NT support. Serialtest Spy licenses can be for Windows 95/98, Windows NT or both. If you have Serialtest Spy for Windows 95/98, you will need to contact Frontline at sales@fte.com to upgrade your Spy to an NT version in order to run under Windows 2000. Windows 2000 and FTS version 1.6 Windows 2000 has a feature called System File Checker that prevents system critical files from being replaced. FTS uses a custom version of the standard serial driver in order to capture data with accurate timestamps and control signal information. In Windows 95/98 and NT, FTS swaps its driver in on startup and swaps it back out when exiting. The problem is that Windows 2000 considers the serial driver a system critical file, and will not allow FTS to replace it with the FTS serial driver. Installing the Serial Driver Download the drivers and instructions. Using Earlier Versions of FTS Under Windows 2000 If you have an earlier version of FTS and wish to run under Windows 2000, the best thing to do is upgrade to version 1.61 which has the most updated drivers and an easy driver installation. If you install versions 1.5 or earlier under Windows 2000 and try to run FTS, FTS will display the following error message: Service Manager failure while attempting to stop serial driver: The value of serviceStatus.dwCurrentState is: 0. This is followed by an FTS Fatal Error. FTS requires a custom version of the standard serial driver in order to provide accurate data capture and timestamping functionality. When FTS starts up, it attempts to replace the standard serial driver with Frontline's custom driver. The problem is that Windows 2000 has a feature called System File Checker which prevents critical files from being replaced, and Windows considers the serial driver a critical file. The version 1.6 installation procedures install the FTS serial driver so that it is not replaced by System File Checker.
